The Korean national flower, Mugunghwa, also known as the Rose of Sharon, represents both the culture and spirit of the Korean people. The Rose of Sharon was loved for many thousands of years by the Baedal people (the earliest name for Koreans) even before the beginning of the Tangun Dynasty, which is believed to be the founding kingdom of Korea.

There are about 200 types of the Rose of Sharon, of which approximately 100 varieties have been identified as originating from Korea. The Rose of Sharon comes in many different colours. The most common colours are dark purple, violet, pink, and white. These flowers bloom for about 100 days from early July until late October. The flower head is about the size of the palm of a hand. Anyone could easily fall in love with this beautiful, firm and enchanting flower. The Korean traditional name for the Rose of Sharon is MUGUNGHWA. Its botanical name, Hibiscus Syriacus Linn, suggests that it was a flower grown in a holy land, and prepared as a gift for a goddess. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the Hibiscus refers to the flower resembling the goddess of beauty.

The ROSA campaign's mission is to distribute the Rose of Sharon for planting all across Canada, to promote the continuing growth of friendship between Canada and Korea. In addition, the flower represents Korean-Canadians establishing their roots in Canada for many future generations
