한국-인도네시아 KF-X 사업 재협상

Korea, Indonesia set renegotiations
*Korea is working on a new agreement with Indonesia for their joint fighter jet project, which has hit a snag following Indonesia’s delay in paying hundreds of millions of dollars.
한국은 인도네시아의 수억 달러 체납으로 난관에 봉착한 차세대 전투기 공동개발 재협상을 위해 노력하고 있다.
*About 10 officials from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) - the maker of the KF-X aircraft - left for Jakarta, Tuesday, to negotiate with Indonesian officials on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the two organizations.
방위사업청과 한국형 차세대 전투기(KF-X) 제조사인 한국항공우주산업(KAI) 관계자 10여 명이 수요일과 목요일 양일에 걸쳐 인도네시아 관계자들과 협상하기 위해 자카르타로 화요일 출발했다.
*The joint fighter jet project is called the KF-X (Korean Fighter eXperimental) in Korea and the IF-X (Indonesian Fighter eXperimental) in Indonesia.
전투기 공동개발 사업은 한국에선 KF-X로, 인도네시아에선 IF-X로 불린다.
*While the two sides have held four rounds of renegotiations, the latest talks come after about a year. It is also the first meeting since Indonesia‘s Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto took office last October. Subianto had been putting off resuming talks with the Korean government, saying he would review the overall content of the country’s defense budget and weapons systems.
양측이 4차례나 재협상을 벌였지만, 이번 회담은 1년여 만에 이뤄지는 것이다. 지난해 10월 프라보워 수비안토 인도네시아 국방장관이 취임한 이후 첫 만남이기도 하다. 수비안토 장관은 그동안 국방예산과 무기체계의 전반적인 내용을 검토하겠다며 한국 정부와의 재협상을 미뤄왔다.
*During this week’s meeting, officials of the two countries are expected to review conditions of the joint development project to strike a deal, as Indonesia wants a reduction in how much it promised to pay the Korean government.
인도네시아가 한국 정부에 지급하기로 약속한 금액의 축소를 원하고 있는 만큼, 이번 만남에서 양국 관계자들은 협상을 성사시키기 위해 차세대 전투기 공동 개발의 조건을 검토할 것으로 보인다. 코리아타임스 홍지민
