정의사회 설립의 약속은 메아리치면 안 된다

*Hosting the first Youth Day ceremony and the global K-pop sensation BTS at the presidential office, President Moon Jae-in attempted to address the dissatisfaction among voters in their 20s and 30s fearful of a bleak future. “We still hear the rage of young people who complain that unfairness still persists,” despite the administration’s efforts, he said. He vowed to listen to young people’s “strong demands for even further fairness and surely meet them.” 

제1회 청소년의 날 기념식과 글로벌 스타인 방탄소년단 초대를 청와대에서 주최 및 초대함으로써 문재인 대통령은 젊은 유권자들, 즉 20대 30대 유권자들의 암울한 미래에 대한 두려움을 어루만져주려고 했다. 문 대통령은 정부의 노력에도 불구하고 “여전히 불공정하다는 청년들의 분노를 듣는다“고 말했다. 청년들의 “공정에 대한 높은 요구를 절감하고 있고 반드시 부응하겠다”고 다짐하기도 했다. 

* “Fairness is the spirit of the candlelight revolution, and it will remain the administration’s unshakeable goal even if it falls short of target,” he said Saturday.

문 대통령은 또 “공정은 촛불혁명의 정신이며 다 이루지 못할 수는 있을지언정 우리 정부의 흔들리지 않는 목표”라고 토요일 밝혔다.

*It is appropriate for the President to say he stays committed to establishing a fair society, as pledged in his election campaign. He mentioned the word “fairness” 37 times, demonstrating a firm resolve to redress the injustices remaining in the rapidly developed and rapidly democratized society. 

대통령으로서 대선 공약으로 약속한 공정한 사회 건립에 계속 매진하겠다고 밝힌 것은 적절하다. 문 대통령은 ‘공정’이라는 단어를 37번 언급하면서 급속하게 발전되고 급속하게 민주화된 한국 사회에 잔재하는 불공정을 해소하겠다는 강한 의지를 보였다. 

*Yet, whether his firm resolve found resonance is another matter amid a series of controversies impacting the administration. The National Assembly’s interpellation session last week has been awash about controversies surrounding alleged privileges given to Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae’s son during his mandatory military service. 

하지만 이러한 대통령의 의지 표명에 많이 공감했을지는 다른 문제다. 현 정권 내부에서 발생하는 여러 논란들 때문이다. 한 예로 지난주 대정부 질문은 추미애 법무장관의 아들이 군복무 시절 특혜를 받았는지에 대한 논란이 주요 쟁점처럼 보였다. 코리아타임스 논설위원실
