Hyundai Motors has opened the era of an 'everyday electric sports car' by introducing its first high-performance electric vehicle, the 'Ioniq 5 N'. This model, which has added fake sounds and vibrations, can provide not only the fun of driving, but also the dynamic 'taste of speed' to consumers who feel that driving an electric car is too quiet and boring. Hyundai Motors announced on the 13th that it unveiled the Ioniq 5 N, the first high-performance electric vehicle of its core electrification strategy 'N brand', at the Goodwood Festival in West Sussex, Southern UK. The Ioniq 5 N, unveiled at the UK's premier car festival, which has produced Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, etc., has a combined maximum output of 478 kilowatts (㎾), which carries the power of 650 horsepower (based on boost mode), and houses a high-output battery of 84 ㎾h, which is significantly higher than the 58 kilowatt hours (㎾h) of the Ioniq 5, thus demonstrating excellent performance, Hyundai explained.
Hyundai described the Ioniq 5 N as a "high-performance electric vehicle that will lead the electrification market, combining the heritage of the past and current technological capabilities" and a "symbolic model announcing the implementation of Hyundai Motor's core electrification strategy 'Hyundai Motor Way'". It is said to be a model that maximizes the driving performance of the existing Ioniq 5 by concentrating Hyundai's advanced electrification technology and well represents the company's direction for electrification.
The Ioniq 5 N possesses all three core elements pursued by the N brand, based on the motorsports know-how of the N brand, including cornering agility (curve driving capability), race track driving capability, and being an everyday sports car. Notably, it includes 'N Pedal' which aids sharp cornering in track driving situations using regenerative braking, and 'N Drift Optimizer' that enables smooth drift driving by dividing the optimal driving force between the front and rear wheels.
The release of the Ioniq 5 N is interpreted as Hyundai Motors firing a 'powerful shot' at the global electric vehicle market. Hyundai's intention seems to set a benchmark in the high-performance electric car market based on 'how similar it is to an internal combustion engine'. An industry official said, "It's clear that the goal of electric vehicles is to reduce carbon emissions," and added, "However, there's a definite need to satisfy those whose aim is to enjoy driving. This is a task that must be solved."
