The baby panda, a sister of Fu Bao and one of the first twins to be born in South Korea, has started to show the distinctive black markings of a panda. According to the Samsung C&T Resort Division operating Everland in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on the 21st, Everland shared images of the 12-day-old twin baby pandas on the official YouTube channel and social networking services such as Instagram on the 20th. Compared to the time of birth, black fur is slowly emerging in the follicles of the body parts where it grows, including the eyes, ears, back, forelegs, and hind legs.
At Panda World in Everland, the first of the twin baby pandas is resting in the arms of her mother, Ai Bao. Provided by Samsung C&T.
Kang Cheol-won, a zookeeper in charge of Panda World, explained, "The ears have changed as if they're wearing black earmuffs, and the eyes are starting to blacken as if wearing sunglasses. The sections from the forelegs to the back and the hind legs are also turning black."
At Panda World in Everland, the second of the twin baby pandas is moving in an incubator. Black markings are visible on her eyes, ears, forelegs, and back. Provided by Samsung C&T.
Everland said, "Around one month after birth, the black markings will be more distinct, and you can see the twin sisters starting to look quite like pandas."
The twin baby pandas are being alternately cared for by their mother, Ai Bao, and the zookeepers. When it's their turn for artificial nursing, the baby pandas are raised in an incubator, and the zookeepers meticulously make sure they are not lacking in nutrition by mixing the mother's milk with two types of formula.Currently, the twin baby pandas, popular stars of Everland and seen as younger siblings of Fu Bao, are enjoying great popularity online. However, it will take a considerable amount of time before visitors to Everland can see the twin pandas in person. Because pandas have a low initial survival rate, they need careful care to the extent that a name is given only around the 100th day after birth. In Fu Bao's case, she made her appearance in front of visitors six months after birth.
